A German World Cup-winning central defender with deep African roots has offered his services to any club in the PSL willing to benefit from his extensive experience at the highest level.
Indications are Jerome Boateng, who played 229 matches for Bayern Munich, has expressed his desire to wind up his career in South Africa. The 35-year-old, 1.90m defender who started his career at Hertha Berlin and also had a short stint at Manchester City, is available on a free.
According to sources, Boateng, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and last featured for French Ligue 1 club Lyon, fell in love with the country during the 2010 global showpiece.
Following allegations in which he was found guilty of spousal abuse, a charge he later appealed in the courts of law, he turned down a contract to re-sign for Bayern, who, at the time, were thin in their defensive department due to injuries.
Boateng is the younger sibling to Kevin-Prince Boateng. Although the two were born in Germany and their father is Ghanaian, he elected to represent Germany, while his elder brother turned out for the African nation at international level.
"He is indeed available and has indicated his strong desire to play in South Africa," said Dawit Gebreyes, adding that any team interested can contact him on 084 229 2822 or email dawitargaw@supergen2020.com.
