A Kaizer Chiefs midfielder who has recently returned has a big few months in trying to make sure he enhances his chances of securing a new deal.
George Matlou is working his way into the team after recovering from an injury that kept him out of contention for some time, but now he has a big challenge.

That challenge is trying to break into the starting line-up and convincing management he deserves a contract extension come the end of the season. Chiefs exercised the option in Matlou's contract after the end of last season, so his current deal is due to expire in June 2025.
Competition in the middle of the park will not be easy for the former Swallows FC midfielder, with head coach currently playing the likes of Yusuf Maart, Samkelo Zwane and Edson Castillo. These are players who were fully part of the pre-season preparations and have the added advantage of match fitness.
The Siya crew understands that Matlou could get an opportunity to feature in the matchday squad in the coming weeks, and he'll need to perform consistently to give himself a chance of getting a new contract. While he is highly rated by management, his performances on the pitch will have a big say on where his future lies next season.

Matlou, who made 10 appearances in all competitions last season, is eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club when the January transfer window opens, but it's understood that Amakhosi will get first preference before other options are considered.
