There is a possible dilemma in Orlando Pirates' pursuit of sought-after striker Ranga Chivaviro during this off-season, the Siya crew has been reliably informed. Following his impressive 2022/23 campaign from which he finished as Marumo Gallants' top goal scorer with 17 goals from 30 matches in all competitions, there has been interest in the burly centre-forward services from the DStv Premiership and outside Mzansi's borders.
The Soweto giants have been keen on the 30-year-old to bolster their ranks, along with arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Richards Bay FC, among other potential suitors, while interest from abroad has come from Young Africans, Azam FC from Tanzania, as well as Pyramids and Zamalek in Egypt, and Al Akhdar of Libya. After Bahlabane Ba Ntwa's relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Pirates emerged as the favourites to land Chivaviro's signature due to the good relationship enjoyed by the two clubs.
Gallants' chairman Abram Sello had earlier confirmed that the player had the one-year option on his deal exercised by the Limpopo based outfit before the season ended. While Bucs have been seen as favourites to sign the forward, insiders have revealed that there is reluctance from the player and his camp about making the move to the Houghton-based club.
"The thing about the whole Pirates issue is that there are many strikers in the team. The player does not get excited about the possibility of going to a team where there are many strikers as he may end up on the bench or in the stands," said a source.
Do you feel Chivaviro should move to Pirates and fight for a place there?
