Truter Addresses Issue Of Bonuses Before Final

The issue of bonuses can be a distraction before a cup final, but Sekhukhune United have dealt with it well from the top, according to coach Brandon Truter.

Sekhukhune are in a knockout competition for the first time in their short topflight history, booking themselves a date with Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final after beating Stellenbosch FC in a penalty shootout in the semis.

The Siya crew understands that players have discussed bonuses this week and indications are that they are going to share a portion of the money should they win the tournament. But it's not an issue that has dominated or affected their preparations, as players are prepared to discuss the matter further after the final.

"Our focus and talk has been to win. Then we will talk about that after we have won," a Siya insider said.

Bonuses can be a distraction for coaches who are trying to prepare for a big game such as the one coming up on Saturday, but Truter has applauded management for ensuring that they do not affect preparations ahead of the biggest match in Sekhukhune's history.

It's given Truter the comfort to prepare for the final, a first in his career, without having too many concerns about players not being fully focused.

"In terms of that, it is a distracting factor, but ultimately in terms of contracts and negotiations, it should be agreed at the beginning of the season already, that a player understands that in cup competitions there will be a percentage divided in the squad. Once that is done, the coach does not have to worry about it. But if it's not, then it's a distraction," Truter told the Siya crew.

"But I have to say that at this moment at Sekhukhune, I have no such problems. Management has done well in terms of that. And I think the players want it more. They want the medal and that trophy more than the financial gain."
