Who The Player Is:
Thulani Serero is a former Bafana Bafana star who currently features for UAE-based side Al Jazira. The 33-year-old is widely regarded as one of South Africa's best exports and has forged a 12-year career for himself in Netherlands and in the Middle East.

What Transfermarkt Says:
At the peak of his powers whilst on the books of Ajax Amsterdam in 2015, Serero was rated as South Africa's most valuable player with an evaluation of €3 million (±R62.7m). According to Transfermarkt, Serero's current market value sits at €1.5 million (±R31.3m), making him the third most valuable South African player behind Lyle Foster and Teboho Mokoena.

Player's contract status:
Serero finds himself at a crossroad where his contract with Al Jazira is set to expire in just over a month's time in 30 June. He signed an extension in 2021 following his inspiring performances with Marcel Kaiser's side. He has made 31 appearances in all competitions and indications are that he will remain with the club beyond the expiry of his contract although they did leave it late to decide on his future.

How Much In SA And Where?:
Serero has been out of the country for the past 12 years and has enjoyed his time away from the local game. Over the last few years there has been a school of thought that suggested Serero might return to Mzansi to wind down his career. There has been no sign of Serero wanting to follow the path to his country of birth; however, if he were to make a move locally, he would have three realistic destinations in Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates. However at 33, a move of that magnitude seems all the more unlikely.

How Much In Europe And Where?:
Serero has featured in Netherlands for six years where he turned out for Ajax Amsterdam and Vitesse respectively. Back in 2017 there was reported interest from France and Germany in his services. He ended up signing for Vitesse where he spent two seasons. Given his current age, Serero is unlikely to make a move to Europe unless it is to a smaller league who are keen to bank on his experience.

Ideal Dream Move:
After he put on a midfield masterclass against the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the UEFA Champions League in 2013, many expected Serero to garner interest from within LaLiga, a league that would best suit his technical ability; however, nothing materialized, although he has achieved a stellar career, winning seven major trophies abroad, which includes three Dutch Championships.
