Club Brugge got a thumping 4-0 win over Zulte Waragem to go 10 points clear in the Belgian Pro League, but Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau was no where to be seen…
It's not been an ideal end to 2019 for the reigning Proximus League Player of the Season, with Philippe Clement taking him off after just 35 minutes in their game against KAA Gent last week, before he missed out completely for their final game of the year on Thursday night.
Tau had been part of the 22-man squad for the game against Waragem as Brugge looked to end the decade on a high, but eyebrows were raised in South Africa when he was left out of the 18-man matchday squad.
Clement later disclosed, however, that the Bafana attacker was not missing for footballing reasons, but because of family commitments, telling the club's official Twitter account, "Percy is not there because of family circumstances."
Brugge now have a lengthy break before a friendly against Ajax Amsterdam on January 11 and then their return to competitive action v Anderlecht on January 19, and Tau will no doubt be eager to make sure he's fighting to get back his starting berth when the new year gets underway for his side.
