Ramoreboli: The Challenge Of Coaching Two Teams

Ramoreboli: The Challenge Of Coaching Two Teams

Following his recent appointment as the caretaker coach of the Botswana senior national team, Morena Ramoreboli has spoken about his plans to juggle between the two roles.

Ramoreboli's appointment was because of his impressive work with Botswana top flight side Jwaneng Galaxy where he remains in charge in the quest to win the league for the third successive time.

"It is not difficult to manage the national team on a temporary basis, knowing that you still have your permanent job. For the national team, I think it's about the camps. And when you are in camp, it means that your team is not involved in the league. But at the same time, if you have a capable technical team, you are not afraid of leaving the team for about a week or two with your trusted assistant coach who will do exactly what you would have done if you were around, or the one who will try to do the sessions that are similar to the sessions that you usually do. With me, I think I have been working with the current technical team for the past four years. So, they know how I think, and they know what I do for preparation of the match, for preparation of the training session and all of that," said Ramoreboli, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"So, for me personally, I would say for now the focus is to try and see how best we can help the country to qualify for AFCON. Let's be honest, this is the situation that has pressure that is there that is temporary. But what we need to do is to respect the conditions that you find yourself in. Obviously, you are not going to give too much attention to the national team and forget the team or give too much attention to the club and forget the national team. So, you need to respect both duties and respecting both duties is to say when it is time to do the job that is required by the club you do your best and do that. When it is time for you to do the job that is required by the nation, you do that," he added.

"The fortunate part is that the challenge of coaching a club and coaching the national team is different. At club football, you have about five sessions a week, while in the national team you don't have enough time. You have maybe three or four days and then you are playing your game. So, that is important and why you have to give your full attention to the preparation. The opportunity of the national team is to make sure that the targets are reached and for the objectives to be achieved you need to double your efforts. You need everyone from the technical team, players and support staff who are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that we achieve such things. I think we are at a stage where it is doable, and we can achieve on that great history of qualifying for AFCON," the coach concluded.
