FIFA Come Down Hard On Royal AM

Royal AM will have to dig deep into their pockets following the latest decision taken by FIFA, which could result in possible transfer bans and even relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The world football governing body came down hard on the Kwa-Zulu Natal based club after they were found guilty of unfairly dismissing former Kaizer Chiefs striker Royal AM.

Nurkovic joined ambitious outfit Royal AM at the start of the 2022/23 season in what was expected to be a career-reviving move following his exit from Kaizer Chiefs. However, what was meant to be a dream ultimately turned into a nightmare as the player's long-term injury prevented him from featuring for the KZN outfit, who in turn, prematurely terminated his contract.

The player's lawyer Davor Lazic confirmed the outcome of the case as decided by FIFA.

"In short, the football tribunal decided on its jurisdiction, and they decided that the claim was accepted and that the club must pay the full amount for the two-year contract and further to it a 10% interest according to article regulation on the status of transfers of players and they stated that if the full payment, including interest, is not paid within 45 days of the decision, then the consequences shall apply," he told 94.7's MSW.

"So basically, if Samir does not receive his payment in the next 10 days, then the club shall be banned from registering any new players on national or international level until the amount is paid.

"If that doesn't happen, then it means further consequences are applicable, which means a deduction of points or relegation to a lower division may be ordered in addition to the ban," he said.

Asked about the amount, which could range into millions, Lazic says it could be a record figure given that Nurkovic was on the best contract at the club.

"A lot. He had the best contract in the club. I think it's a record, but I cannot mention the specific sum," he said.
