In a shocking but not completely unexpected move, Richards Bay FC are believed to be open and willing to listen to offers for the status of their DStv Premiership franchise. News reaching the Siya crew is that the Natal Rich Boyz are asking for a price for their status in the range of R62 million and if there are any takers out there, they were willing to discuss the handover.
This publication has gathered information that the club barely managed to stay above waters towards the tail end of the recently ended season and were wallowing in debts. After moving to the DStv Premiership following promotion at the start of this past campaign, the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit took to the elite division like a duck to water and at one stage even led the standings as they sat comfortably at the top of the pile.
But reality set in and things started going pear-shaped when the second round got underway, to such an extent that rumours surfaced that the club was struggling to meet its financial obligations and some players allegedly went unpaid for a few months. Meanwhile, news reaching the Siya crew's desk is that while Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars appeared to have reached an agreement to sell their status to Black Leopards, negotiations seem to have, all of a sudden hit a snag.
The deal, according to reliable Siya sources, has not yet been finalised and the two parties are still trying to find each other. In essence, no deal has been struck yet, even though it was initially reported that the parties had signed. Unless Lidoda Duvha tie the deal down, our sources have indicated that All Stars are getting impatient and if nothing is finalised this week, they will seek another buyer interested in taking over the club.
How would you feel if Richards Bay were to sell their status?
