Richards Bay FC, affectionately known as the Natal Rich Boyz, successfully secured their status in South Africa's top flight through the Promotion Play-offs this week, overcoming Baroka FC 4-0 in a crucial match on Wednesday.
Throughout the past season, Richards Bay hovered near the relegation zone, making their eventual survival through the Promotion Play-offs a commendable feat. The club is known for its attractive style of play and commitment to developing young talent, with many players in the squad boasting home-grown roots.

Despite the challenges on the field, Richards Bay faced additional hurdles off the field, including a transfer ban imposed by FIFA in April. The ban was due to the club's failure to settle financial commitments with former player Ovella Ochieng. However, the KZN club decided to act to resolve the issue, settling the amounts owed and lifting the ban.
Club chairman Jomo Biyela addressed the situation in a media briefing following the clash with Baroka, explaining that there had been a misunderstanding regarding the payment amounts.
"We have sorted it out, it was not even a ban that comes with millions like other teams. It was a misunderstanding (of) R230 000," Biyela told the media in a briefing, as reported by the SABC.

"But it is fine now, we are sorting it out and signing players as I speak to you," continued the chairman.
Biyela reassured fans and the media that the issue was resolved and that the club was actively signing new players.
In recognition of his efforts to keep the team in the top division, current coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi is expected to be rewarded with a new two-year contract, according to local reports. Biyela has praised Vilakazi for his role in navigating the team through a challenging season and ensuring their survival.
As preparations for their third season in the top flight get underway, Richards Bay FC are looking to strengthen their squad by adding new personnel. The club's proactive approach in addressing off-field issues and reinforcing the team highlights their commitment to building a competitive and sustainable presence in South African football.
In the recently concluded Promotion Play-offs, Richards Bay faced not only Baroka but also the University of Pretoria. They finished atop the standings with two wins and two draws from four matches, demonstrating their resilience and tactical acumen.
