Orlando Pirates' influential attacking midfielder, Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi's superb season has been rewarded with him receiving the 2023/24 Soccer Laduma Player of the Season award, as voted for by our readers.
The Tembisa-born star has had a stellar season, so much so he topped the Man of the Match Awards accolade table, with more than 10 gongs to his name. Maswanganyi's season has been so great that his omission from the Footballer of the Season Award nominees has raised eyebrows among the football supporters. In this category, he was beaten by the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Teboho Mokoena and Ronwen Williams together with Stellenbosch FC's striker, Iqraam Rayners.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the above-mentioned category, Tito's name found its way into the Players' Player of the Season where he will be battling it out with Williams and Rayners, for the award voted for by their colleagues.
Tito also finds himself in the company of Sanele Barns and Devin Titus, as they square off for the Midfielder of the Season award. He will also be fighting off stiff competition from teammate Tshegofatso Mabasa and Rayners for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and then the MTN8 Last Man Stading Award against Zakhele Lepasa and Sipho Chaine. Together with Rayners, Tito has been nominated four times and is a contender for one of the big winners at the PSL's end-of-the season awards ceremony.
For someone who was starved of regular game-time at SuperSport United before making the switch to Pirates before the start of the just-ended campaign, Maswanganyi has had a stellar season by any means! Finding himself among the best and most important players at Pirates in his first full season, scoring nine goals coupled with numerous assists and Man of the Match Awards along the way, it comes as no surprise that Soccer Laduma readers had him winning this season's award head and shoulders above his peers.
The 26-year-old beat Williams to the Soccer Laduma Player of the Season award, as they were the last two men standing. Congratulations, Tito!
