Over the weekend, the 28-year-old forward showcased his goalscoring prowess by netting a stunning hat-trick in the Buccaneers' 3-1 victory over Baroka FC in the Nedbank Cup.
His clinical performance secured Pirates' place in the tournament's quarterfinals while also propelling him into the club's history books.
With 44 goals to his name, Mabasa has now surpassed club legends Phumlani Mkhize and the late Lesley Manyathela, who were tied with him at 41 goals prior to the match.
His achievement now sees him ranked second on the club's all-time goalscoring list in the PSL era to Benedict Vilakazi who holds the record with 58 goals.
Speaking to journalists during the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals draw in Randburg, Johannesburg, on Monday, Mabasa shared his thoughts on the competition within the squad.
"It's good, and it's healthy. We support one another regardless of who plays on the day. We have a group of quality players regardless of whatever position you may look in. We support one another and we're always there for one another. Like I say, regardless of who plays on the day, we know that they can deliver and do the job for the team, which is the most important thing for the team to win games," said Mabasa.
The striker also expressed his excitement about facing SuperSport United in the quarterfinals and the prospect of making history by securing a third consecutive Nedbank Cup title for the Buccaneers.
"Yes, it's another shot at making history, and for a big brand like Orlando Pirates, that's important. And I always say to the guys that history can never be rewritten, we have to leave our mark and build a legacy. That's what we want to do with this Nedbank Cup as well, we managed to do it with the MTN8, and hopefully, we can do it with the Nedbank Cup as well. I know the guys are motivated, and we want to do well for this wonderful club and continue achieving the unthinkable," the goal ace added.
