With Orlando Pirates still linked with players before next week's transfer window deadline, a former Buccaneer has commented on the signings and the progress they have made.
AmaZulu defender Siphesihle Maduna and Kenyan striker Benson Omala are some of the players to have been linked with Bucs although there are new players that are still waiting for their chance in the team, including Lesedi Kapinga, Karim Kimvuidi and Melusi Buthelezi.
Furthermore, the club's experienced duo of Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule are also yet to play this season.
Former Pirates defender, Tonic Chabalala, says there is no need for the Soweto giants to further reinforce the squad.
The Good
"In terms of signings, I think we are fine. We have depth in each department. As for the MTN8, I think we will be winning it again provided that we stick to the plan and consistency will be key in the performances. I honestly feel that the team is covered in all the departments and I see no need for further signings. I like the competition in the team and I don't see the need to make any more reinforcements. Most of those players that we have were together in Spain during our pre-season camp and the coach is getting his combinations right and the players are gelling," said Chabalala.
The Bad
"All we need is consistency going forward because the structure is there and we have raised the bar. The mentality that I would like to see from the players would be applying the saying that you are only as good as your last game. We don't want to see them playing good this week and bad the next week hence I am talking about consistency and how important it will be for the team throughout the season," he said.
The Ugly
"With regards to the MTN8, I don't think Sundowns can stop us if we can play the way we played against Stellenbosch (Downs still have to play Kaizer Chiefs in the second leg semi-final match). We just have to finish the job against Stellenbosch in the second leg. I am saying this knowing that anything can happen in football but our advantage is that we are one goal ahead against them. We can seal it in Orlando and wait for either Chiefs or Sundowns in the final. But my wish is for us to get Sundowns in the final and I am confident in our players that they would do the job for us to defend the trophy," concluded the former centre-back.
Do Pirates have space for more signings in coach Jose Riveiro's squad?
