Pirates Legend Issues Message To Supporters…

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi has sent a message to the supporters amid the lack of support for some teams.

Throughout his successful career as a top defender and loyal servant for the Buccaneers and captain, Lekgwathi had been known for his good relationship with the fans and had been one of the well-respected players.

Following recent incidents from some sections of Bucs' fans appearing to be displeased with some players' performances, Lekgwathi has reiterated the importance of support in football.

Veteran goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane has become the latest target of the boo boys, following an earlier incident involving striker Terrence Dzvukamanja about two weeks ago.

"Let's please support our teams. I know some people turn their backs on their teams when they are not doing well, but don't forget that you are your team's 12th player, so they need you the most when things are not going well. For instance, if Pirates supporters had stopped singing after Arrows equalized, the game would have ended 1-1, but through their support, Pirates players went on to score two more goals to win the match," said Lekgwathi, speaking to the Siya crew.

Meanwhile, Lekgwathi has given an update on the activities he has been involved in.

"I thank God for making it to 2023 because some people, unfortunately, didn't make it this far. It is good for one to give back to the community. For me, I believe it is blessings and I think it is also a calling. With all the problems were going through as a country, especially since COVID-19, we've seen a lot of people lose jobs and that's why I make sure gore (that) whenever I get a chance, I go and give back to the communities. In December, I went to Lephalale to play in a soccer tournament, visited hospitals to motivate those who are hospitalized, some of whom are football supporters and our individual supporters. I also went to Rustenburg and Venda to give back because, like I said, it is a calling," the legend concluded.
