Orlando Pirates have intensified their pursuit of an influential midfield strongman from DStv Premiership rivals.
With the Soweto giants having showed seriousness in strengthening the team to compete for honours in seasons to come, AmaZulu midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula remains a target for the club with a view of adding him to the likes of Cameroonian striker Marou Souaibou, Ndumiso Mabena and Craig Martin, who recently joined Jose Riveiro's team.

As reported by the Siya crew in December, Pirates have been monitoring the central midfielder's situation and expected to make a move for him.
While some reports have suggested that the 33-year-old might have already signed a pre-contract with the Buccaneers, sources in the know have indicated that the player remains committed to Usuthu, although his contract situation remains unchanged.

Makhaula will see his deal with the KwaZulu-Natal giants expire at the end of June. He has been with the Durban-based club since 2020, having joined from Highlands Park.
"Pirates is still interested in the player. However, the player's future will be decided as the season progresses, or at the end of the campaign," said the source.
