Monnapule Saleng's rise to stardom at Orlando Pirates is pleasing to his mentor, who predicts a brighter future for the talented player.
In June last year, Saleng's mentor and former coach Pogiso Makhoye told the Siya crew that the winger had initially signed for Golden Arrows, before he surfaced at Free State Stars where his professional career started in 2019.

At the time, the left winger had excelled at Orbit College FC in the third tier under Makhoye and the mentor felt that he was ready for Mzansi's topflight although the said Arrows move failed.
After scoring the two goals that helped the Buccaneers in their 2-0 victory over Abafana Bes'thende on Tuesday evening and following his impressive performances since he started playing regularly under Jose Riveiro, Saleng had his representative showering him with praise for progress.
"To me, it is not a surprise that he is performing this way because I groomed the boy from a young age, and I know what he is capable of. I wanted to post a picture of when I was with Mam' Mato (Madlala, Arrows chairlady) when she signed the boy and then nothing happened afterwards. I had told her that the boy would be a star in South Africa in the next three years from then. Now, it is happening. When he scored against Arrows last night, I was so happy," said Makhoye, speaking to the Siya crew.

"Arrows is one team that I wanted the boy to do well against because they couldn't believe me when I told them that he was a gem. After they dumped him, I had to sit down with the boy to lift his morale to make sure that he didn't lose hope. Today he is playing for a big team and is now scoring goals and people are talking about him. I knew that this moment was coming," the mentor concluded.
