Moeneeb: That's The Type Of Goalkeeper That Wins You Leagues!

Moeneeb: That's The Type Of Goalkeeper That Wins You Leagues!

With the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi getting the limelight, former goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has revealed an unsung hero in the Orlando Pirates team.

Pirates have remained in the title race midway into the season, ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

The Soweto giants have been consistent in the league, unlike the previous campaigns where they would fall off the race very early.

The likes of Mofokeng, Maswanganyi and Thalenthe Mbatha have all been rated as key to the Buccaneers' form.

However, former Pirates goalkeeper Josephs believes the role that has been played by shot-stopper Sipho Chaine has been immense.

Chaine made unbelievable saves against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby, especially in the first stanza to keep Ezimnyama in the game, where they won 1-0 at the death.

The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper also came out on top against Sekhukhune United in midweek, where he appeared to have also saved Pirates two points towards the end, where the Jose Riveiro's charges looked fatigued.

'Slimkat' believes Chaine has probably saved the Ghost 15 points so far in the league this season.

"That is the type of a goalkeeper that wins you leagues! Chaine so far has gotten us probably 15 points this season with the vital saves that he makes, that save at the death (against Sekhukhune), my goodness!" Josephs reacted on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"I was already crying (thinking Pirates will draw), to anticipate a save like that is the most difficult thing because the guy is right in front of you. Chaine has the ability to stand straight up and just when the player is about to shoot, (react).

"Great goalkeepers they don't always anticipate, they react, that was a reaction save, to read that ball is unbelievable," Josephs enthused.

Chaine has already kept seven clean sheets in the league for the Buccaneers, one more than he did the whole of last campaign, although he missed two months of action due to injury.
