Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese said his side beat Mamelodi Sundowns in their MTN8 quarter-final match on Saturday because they stuck to their game plan.
Two goals in the opening 15 minutes from Vuyo Mere and Ndumiso Mabena saw the defending MTN8 champions into the semi-finals at the expensive of the 2013/14 Absa Premiership champions despite a consolation goal from Teko Modise.
"We had a game plan from when we got here and it worked, I am happy about that," said Freese.
"We knew there were certain things we had to do and that was to defend properly which we did.
"I do think we let in a soft goal, but I also think we could have scored a couple more.
"I am just happy our name is back in the draw (for the semi-finals)."
Freese said that despite Sundowns seeing more of the ball his side still deserved the win, but they will continue to work on their weak areas.
"Unlucky For Sundowns, but I think at moments we played some good football and we deserved to win," added Freese.
"It shouldn't have been that close, it was soft goal we conceded, but we will go back and work on it.
This win has put us in a good space going forward."
