GladAfrica Championship Wrap 27-29 August

Cape Town All Stars got their campaign up and running the GladAfrica Championship on Friday with a 3-2 victory over TS Sporting on their own turf.

Debutant Eleazar Rodgers gave All Stars the lead before a penalty from Ndiviwe Mdabuka and Sirgio Kammies increased their tally, while Mohau Mokate and Paseka Sekese netted for Sporting.

Polokwane City secured their first win of the season following a 2-0 victory over Cape Town Spurs at home on Saturday afternoon.

A first of the season for Simon Ramabu had the Rise and Shine ahead before Hlayisi Chauke made sure of all the maximum points, as Spurs slow start to the campaign continued.

Venda Football Academy 1-0 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila were handed their first defeat of the season after going down 1-0 away to the Venda Football Academy.

After an opening day win, the visiting contingent saw a late strike from Tshepo Mofokeng grant their counterparts a first win of the campaign following a stalemate at Spurs last time out.

Pretoria Callies suffered back-to-back losses as the newly-promoted Hungry Lions FC engineered their first win of the term with a 2-1 triumph.

The league's new boys had a second half brace from Pitso Tlotlego to thank for the victory after Nathaniel Tladi put Callies ahead earlier on in the clash.

A stubborn Free State Stars prevented Richards Bay FC two straight victories in the league courtesy of a goalless draw in Umhlathuze.

Richards Bay needed a late penalty in their first match last week to see off Jomo Cosmos, while a narrow defeat saw Stars go down to Polokwane City Rovers.

New boys Platinum City Rovers continued their positive start to the second-tier with a 3-2 victory over JDR Stars.

Rovers were ahead very early through Tapiwa Mandinyenya, and a double inside the first 30 minutes by Thabiso Nkoana took them into halftime in control.

A fight back looked on the cards from Stars with Temptation Chiwunga netting a late penalty before Mzwai Radebe also found target, but Rovers edged victory.

Uthongathi FC 1-1 Black Leopards

Black Leopards were unable to secure their first win of the season in the second tier following a 1-1 draw against Uthongathi FC.

Lidoda Duvha made the perfect start courtesy of the opener by Tiklas Thutlwa before the interval, but a penalty by Issa Sarr after the restart forced the tie to a share of the spoils.

Jomo Cosmos experienced back-to-back losses after going down 1-0 to the University of Pretoria in their first away clash of the campaign.

The only effort which proved the winning one in the end came through Kamohelo Pheeane, giving Tuks their first win of the season.
