GladAfrica Championship Wrap

GladAfrica Championship Wrap

The GladAfrica Championship produced two major shocks as high-flying JDR Stars and Jomo Cosmos were outgunned at home by Cape Town Spurs and Royal AM respectively, however, Cape United and Sekhukhune United, who lead the table on goal difference, took full advantage by grabbing all three points on offer.

Thanks to a brace from Thendo Mukumela, the Urban Warriors were able to overpower the Hammer Boys 2-1 at the Giant Stadium, where the home side levelled matters with about ten minutes to go before the 22-year-old smacked home his last-gasp winner.

Ezenkosi, who're still waiting to pick up a victory at Olen Park Stadium, lost 1-0 to the big-spending KZN outfit, for whom Siphamandla Ncanana was the hero.

The Spirited Ones moved back into contention courtesy of a single strike from Edson Khumalo, without reply, which doomed Bizana Pondo Chiefs to a fourth defeat in eight matches.

Roger de Sa's outfit therefore secured a fourteenth point to sit one behind the front runners with a match in hand.

Babina Noko's impressive 2-1 away win over Free State Stars was coach, MacDonald Makhubedu's second success on the trot and bodes well for his future.

Although Monnapule Saleng opened the score for Ea Lla Koto with a spot kick, Sekhukhune fought back in style via goals from Yusuf Maart and Prince Nxumalo, 30, his third of the campaign.

Lesvin Stoffels is another veteran showing good form in the twilight of his career. The well-travelled midfielder went joint-top of the sharpshooters' list with another creative effort during Steenberg's 2-0 win over Igugu Lekapa - bringing his total to five!

The match between Richards Bay FC and TS Sporting ended goalless, while Pretoria Callies beat Polokwane City 2-1.

Lastly, University of Pretoria and Uthongathi FC played to a 1-1 stalemate with Samuel Julies and Francis Baloyi on the scoresheet for their respective sides.
