All Stars confirmed their spot in the play-offs before their last game of the season, as third position was the highest they could attain on the log.
Allan Freese's charges went on to lose their final game, a dead-rubber against JDR Stars, as their five-game unbeaten run came to an end.
University of Pretoria, on the other hand, were in contention for automatic promotion up to the last game but two consecutive draws in their last two games saw them finish two points behind champions Richards Bay in second spot on the log.
AmaTuks boast an unbeaten record in year 2022 that has stretched to 13 games in the league and showed their potential to hold their own against DStv Premiership sides after beating Chippa United and narrowly losing 3-2 to Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup.
Tlisane Motaung's men had the upper hand in the sides' duels in the regular season, as they edged Igugu Lekapa 3-2 early in the season on home soil before sharing the spoils 1-1 in the reverse fixture.
