Mamelodi Sundowns will be chasing a domestic treble when they lock horns with Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday evening.
Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Marumo Gallants
Date: 28 May 2022
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Time: 18h00
Sundowns reached the final after edging Royal AM 2-1 in the semi-finals, whic was the only top-flight side they faced in the competition after cruising past lower league sides in the early knockout stages.
The Brazilians, apart from chasing a domestic treble after winning the MTN8 and league titles, will be looking to become the most successful side in the Nedbank Cup under current sponsors, as they share the record of most titles won with SuperSport United (3).
Sundowns will also be gunning for revenge after they were knocked out by Gallants (while they were known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) in the semi-finals of this competition on penalties last season on their way to lifting the title.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, on the other hand, made it to a second consecutive final after a narrow 1-0 win over neighbours Tshakhuma (who have inherited their previous name) in the semi-finals.
Gallants will be looking to become only the second side to successfully defend the Nedbank Cup after SuperSport won it consecutively in 2016 and 2017.
The Limpopo side have already qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of reaching the final, as Sundowns will be playing in the CAF Champions League.
