Tshegofatso Mabasa, on loan from Orlando Pirates, gave Babina Noko an early lead but another Pirates loanee Bongani Sam snatched the equaliser for the Team of Choice five minutes before time.
The Soweto giants completed a league double over Maritzburg last term, including a 2-0 win at the FNB Stadium in December.
