Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC resume rivalry at the DHL Stadium for a provincial derby this evening.
Teams: Cape Town City v Stellenbosch
Date: 20 August 2022
Venue: DHL Stadium
Time: 17h30
The Citizens have endured a horrible start to the season after suffering three consecutive defeats to Mamelodi Sundowns, Swallows and AmaZulu.
However, Eric Tinkler's charges picked up their first point on the board on Tuesday evening after playing to a goalless draw against Maritzburg United at Athlone Stadium.
City sit at the bottom of the log and are one of only three teams with only one point, including Golden Arrows and SuperSport United, although the Citizens have played an extra match.
The Citizens have lost the services of goalkeeper Hugo Marques, who asked to be released from his contract and immediately signed for Angolan side Petro de Luanda.
Stellies, meanwhile, picked up their first victory of the season last weekend after thrashing Royal AM 3-1 last Saturday courtesy of goals by Antonio Van Wyk, an own goal by Ricardo Nascimento and Oswin Andries.
Steve Barker's troops also remain unbeaten heading into this evening's encounter, while Stellenbosch have won the last three clashes between the sides in the league.
