The Brazilians secured a record fifth successive league title last campaign, finishing 16 points ahead of the Citizens who secured second place.
The reigning champions have managed to bolster their squad after signing Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and Sipho Mbule from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
Sundowns will come up against a City side looking to build on their impressive finish to the 2021/2022 season after securing CAF Champions League football for the first time in their history.
The Citizens have brought in former Stellenbosch defender Marc van Heerden and American midifleder Jordan Bender, while Luke Daniels has been promoted to the first team.
Meetings between the two sides have been tight in recent years, with both league fixtures last campaign ending in goalless draws while Sundowns defeated City on penalties in the MTN8 final.
