Bafana Bafana will start the defence of their COSAFA Cup title in the quarter-finals when they lock horns with Mozambique on Wednesday evening.
Teams: South Africa v Mozambique
Date: 12 July 2022
Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium
Time: 17h00
Bafana are a completely different side to the one that won the title last year, as the selection of the current squad was mainly based on the U-23 players.
The tournament will serve as preparations for the CAF U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers.
South Africa assistant coach Helman Mkhalele will be in charge of the team that has exciting players breaking through the ranks and having the opportunity to impress.
The most experienced player in the squad Ethan Brooks won't be available with a minor knee injury and SuperSport United defender Kegan Johannes will captain the side as a result.
Mozambique, on the other hand, will be looking for revenge after they lost 3-0 to champions Bafana in the semi-finals of last year's edition.
The Mambas are yet to beat Bafana in a total of five head to head meetings since 2008, including friendly matches, as South Africa has been dominant with four victories, while the other encounter ended in a draw.
