Ex-Chiefs Stars Fired Up To Prove A Point In Prem Opener

Ex-Chiefs Stars Fired Up To Prove A Point In Prem Opener

Ahead of the opening Premiership clash against Marumo Gallants, Kaizer Chiefs will come up against former players on a comeback trail under Dan Malesela.

Although Chiefs will be looking forward to unleashing some of their new signings, including Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel, Njabulo Blom and Rushwin Dortley among others, they will be up against some familiar faces with a point to prove at Gallants.

Both Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Phathutshedzo Nange are part of a bevy of new signings at Siwelele Sa Marumo, after they were released by the Glamour Boys without fulfilling their full potential.

Nange left the Soweto giants in 2021 and had a two-year stint at SuperSport United before he joined Gallants while Mahlatsi was recruited by Chippa United post his Amakhosi days in February this year and has now been roped by the Bloemfontein based outfit.

Malesela, who replaced Dylan Kerr during pre-season at Gallants, has suggested that he knows exactly how to get the best out of the former Amakhosi dribbling forward.

"Phathu is underrated you know, so is Kamo. Kamo for me I see him as an awkward player to deal with and when you give him the freedom to play, then he can give you his best, you can get the best out of him and that is exactly what we're trying to do," Malesela said on Metro FM Sports.

"To say, 'Hey, be free man, express yourself!'

"Many people don't know, he's got the ability to score, big ability to score goals. That's one other thing that attracted me to him and he has been doing well so far.

"Competition is very stiff, we've got some exciting wingers and all of that, so everybody has to perform. He is living up to that as well," Malesela added.

Other big signings at Gallants include Gabadinho Mhango, Xola Mlambo and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
