Mamelodi Sundowns are understood to be determined to keep one of their own home grown talents at the club for a longer period, the Siya crew can reveal.
Sphelele Mkhulise's current contract with the DStv Premiership defending champions expires on June 30 this year, and sources have revealed that Masandawana are believed to be in talks with the 26-year-old for a new deal.

Indications are that the Downs look set to offer the midfielder a two-year contract with a one year option.
"Coach Rulani (Mokwena) has made it clear that Sphe (Mkhulise) is in his plans. You can see even the way he is using him these days. He wans him to stay. Even when coach Manqoba (Mngqithi) was in charge he wanted him to stay. That's why they have offered him a straight two year extension with another one year option. I think the travelling is what is delaying the deal to be finalized but don't worry, he is not going anywhere," the source said.
As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs were interested in the Sundowns academy graduate and the log leaders are believed to have acted to avoid losing the player on a free.
Mkhulise joined the club youth set-up in 2012 but was only promoted to the senior team in 2018 and has been sent on loan on two occasions.
Since the change of guard at Sundowns, which saw Mokwena appointed as head coach, the midfielder has seen more game-time, with the Siya crew understanding that he has earned himself and extended stay at the Tshwane giants.
