DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed their third signing ahead of the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League season.
Having already confirmed the arrivals of Lesiba Nku and Junior Mendieta from Marumo Gallants and Stellenbosch FC respectively, the Tshwane giants have announced the acquisition of Brazilian attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
The 24-year-old attacker was playing in Belgium for Beveren and Sundowns have convinced him to ply his trade in the PSL, joining Marcelo Allende, Gaston Sirino, Erwin Saavedra and Mendieta as the South Americans at the club. Saavedra, however, is expected to leave the Brazilians before the start of the season, with Sundowns looking to make room for another foreigner in the squad.
To make space in their foreign quota, Sundowns are also expected to register Sirino as a South African, as the Uruguayan attacker has been in the country for five years since he was signed in January 2018. PSL clubs are allowed to register five foreigners in their team, so Sundowns are working behind the scenes to fill the quota with players they feel can add value as they launch another challenge for the CAF Champions League title.
Sundowns are understood to also be preparing to announce the acquisition of Brazilian attacker Everton Moraes. They will be heading to the Netherlands for pre-season, joining Orlando Pirates as the two South African clubs spending pre-season in Europe.
