A big night awaits Mamelodi Sundowns' Ronwen Williams, with the potential of winning an award goalkeepers hardly ever get to scoop.
Nominated alongside Teboho Mokoena and Monnapule Saleng for the ultimate individual prize - PSL Footballer of the Season - Williams is well aware of the fact that it won't be easy. After all, the goalkeeping position is one of those which usually takes a back seat wherever goals and assists are involved, with those statistics often been used to measure who the best player of the season is.

And with SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt recently saying he does not think a goalkeeper should win the biggest individual prize in the local game, it's easy to see how much of a challenge it will be to win it ahead of Mokoena and Saleng. But, life can be unpredictable and there is no reason why Williams should not have some hope of winning the award after inspiring Sundowns to a sixth consecutive title with a record breaking 18 clean sheets in the DSTV Premiership.
"Obviously I feel amazing, because there was a lot of talk at the beginning of the season about me coming this side. But I knew what I am capable of and what I can do. There's always something to work and improve on. It's been an amazing individual season for me, but I couldn't do it alone. I didn't keep all those clean sheets by myself. It's an amazing team effort and it's thanks to everyone for the contribution and I've thanked them individually. I am just proud of what I have achieved, but there is more things to achieve," the Bafana Bafana captain told media during a event held at Hyundai in Bedforview on Friday.
"Coming to coach Gavin's statement, there is not much to say. I would share his sentiments as well because the players work hard, but then again the goalkeeping role has changed over the last few years. You become more of a sweeper-keeper, you need to be involved in the build-ups. The game has changed, especially at our team. You are involved in play. I can't say much on it. He has his own reasons, so there is nothing much to say on that.

Williams also gave his thoughts on Mokoena and Saleng, who have both been influential for Sundowns and Orlando Pirates respectively.
"They've been amazing. I am so proud of Teboho Mokoena. He has been amazing. He is one of the good guys who is looking to improve and get better. Whoever gets it, it will be fully deserved. On the other side, Saleng has been amazing. He has scored so many goals and he has contributed highly to their success. Whoever wins it, it would be fully deserved."
