Has Cardoso Found His Tune At Sundowns?

Mamelodi Sundowns appear to have found their rhythm under head coach Miguel Cardoso and it seems as though they are only just getting started.

Cardoso has only one defeat to his name since starting in December, but fluidity was a bit of a problem in their game, until recently where they've just been hammering opponents left, right and centre.

In the last three matches, the champions have rattled the back of the net 11 times. With Champions League football on a break for a while, the club has been travelling less in terms of distance and this has probably played a part in Cardoso being able to get more from his players on the pitch.

The arrival of Jayden Adams, Lucas Suarez and Keanu Cupido has also created more competition in the squad, with players eager to impress so that they can get more game time.

It's not always easy for a coach to come in and hit the ground running once the season has started, but former Sundowns player Tyrene Arendse feels what Cardoso has going for him, is having a squad of players who have played together for a while.

"With the quality of Sundowns, some coaches would say it's easy to coach a team that has so much quality. These guys have been together for a while and they have been successful.

"It's largely because of the quality and the ability the players have. I would say it's still early, but I think the quality of the squad has helped the coach a lot in terms of settling in earlier than normal. It takes a good coach that understands the game, to tweak here and there. Normally bringing in a new coach during the season brings in that freshness because even the players who were not playing want to show the coach that they also want to play. They want to show the coach that they are also there and that helps the squad in general."
