Mamelodi Sundowns appear to have launched into second gear, with notable improvement in the team's performances after a slow start in the 2024/25 season under Manqoba Mngqithi.
The Brazilians defeated SuperSport United 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last night in their opening League match to send a clear message about their intentions for the season as the defending champions.

The win was a second convincing one in a space of days after the team defeated Mbabane Swallows 4-0 in the second preliminary CAF Champions League fixture at the weekend.
Apart from the convincing results, there has been notable improvement in the team's performances, with indications that the players are slowly adapting to the changes at the club.
Following Downs' exit in the MTN8 after losing the two-legged semi-final tie against Stellenbosch FC, there has been talk of mounting pressure on Mngqithi to improve the team and to achieve better results.
However, sources close to Sundowns have indicated that all is well in camp and that improved performances and results could be expected from the champions, as the club management remains fully committed on supporting the mentor.
"This noise has been in the media and social media, but the club has been focused on assisting the coach and his technical team to do the job in the best way they can. In Manqoba, Sundowns have never doubted that they have one of the best coaches for the job and nothing has changed," said the source.

"The coach and his technical staff are working so hard to improve the team to compete in all the competitions it will be involved in and don't get surprised to see Sundowns dominating this season, because there's too much work and progress that is being made behind the scenes," the source added.
