Agent Mike Makaab has revealed a major update on the position Manqoba Mngqithi occupies at Mamelodi Sundowns, following changes to the technical team recently.
Sundowns are into their second week without Rulani Mokwena working as head coach, after confirming his exit last week. Mngqithi was senior coach working under Mokwena, but since Steve Komphela has been brought in to now occupy that role, it appears Mngqithi is now the head coach.

Mngqithi has previously worked as co-coach with Mokwena, but has never had an opportunity to be the head coach at the club. Nothing has been confirmed by the club, but Makaab discussed the matter on radio on Tuesday morning.
It's unclear at this stage if Mngqithi has officially signed a new contract with Sundowns, with his last one having expired at the end of June.
"Manqoba (Mngqithi) was the senior coach assisting Rulani Mokwena. So, at this stage, Manqoba will take over as the head coach. And again, it will be clarified over the weeks to come and Steve Komphela returns as the senior coach," said Makaab, speaking on Gagasi FM.

"It's always been the case that they have worked incredibly well together, have enormous respect for another. I think it's very smart by Mamelodi Sundowns to bring Steve (Komphela) back. Very smart move."
It remains to be seen if Sundowns will officially end their search for a new coach, having recently been linked with the likes of Patrice Carteron and former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer.
