With Kaizer Chiefs and Khama Billiat seemingly at the end of their relationship, Soccer Laduma looks at his numbers to see whether or not his presence will be missed at the club.
It's believed Billiat was on a salary in the region of about R500 000 at Naturena, which made him one of the highest earners in the team along with Keagan Dolly. With a salary as high as his, Amakhosi are set to make a saving and could even add another attacking player to the team ahead of the new campaign.
Billiat's time at Chiefs since joining from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 has not brought the Soweto giants much success, as the drought has extended to eight years. He was brought in as someone to lead the charge to success, but while he contributed quite a lot in the final third in terms of goals and assists, Amakhosi were never able to get over the line.
In his first season with Amakhosi, in 2018/19, Billiat recorded 11 goals and made 10 assists in all competitions. Amakhosi finished ninth that season and lost in the Nedbank Cup final to TS Galaxy, who were in the National First Division at the time.
In 2019/20, Billiat was not as influential in the final third, contributing with three goals and two assists in 25 appearances for the Soweto giants in all competitions. Amakhosi missed out on the league title on the final day of the campaign, drawing with Baroka FC as Mamelodi Sundowns snatched it away from them.
The following campaign, 2020/21, Billiat came up with two goals and six assists in 22 appearances, but he improved those numbers in 2021/22 with eight goals and as many assists. Last season he finished the season with three assists in 12 matches and struggled with injury, as he missed over half the campaign recovering.

In total, in five years, Billiat contributed directly to 53 goals and despite the challenges he faced, he was still one of their more dangerous attackers. Should he not sign a new deal, Amakhosi would certainly miss a player with that much influence in the final third.
