AmaZulu Circling Chiefs Midfielder For Swoop?

AmaZulu Circling Chiefs Midfielder For Swoop?

Kaizer Chiefs player George Matlou's future remains uncertain as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and now the Siya crew investigates the latest on the midfielder.

Insiders close to AmaZulu and Chiefs have indicated that Usuthu are monitoring the situation closely, as the KwaZulu-Natal club is interested in securing the services of the former Swallows FC player.

The Siya sources added that AmaZulu are believed to be keen to explore the possibility of signing Matlou ahead of next season.

The Durban-based team is awaiting Chiefs’ final decision regarding the midfielder's future before making an official move.

"What I can tell you now is that the team that I know to have shown interest in George (Matlou) is AmaZulu. It could still be at the early stages as things are but it's believed that they have enquired about him," the source told the Siya crew.

A second insider stated how things are not looking promising for Matlou at Chiefs in terms of contract renewal discussions.

"There are no talks at the moment regarding the renewal of his contract. His current contract expires in June this year and by now he should be knowing whether he is staying or not and that's what could give AmaZulu a chance to sign him for free. His future at Chiefs is not clear," the second insider stated.

The 26-year-old joined Amakhosi three years ago from Swallows FC, and after suffering from an injury last season he has recovered and played matches in the current Betway Premiership campaign.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma about the situation, Matlou’s agent, John Wilson, confirmed that there is interest from several clubs in the player.

"I am aware of interest from several clubs regarding George's future. At this stage, we're focused on exploring all available options to ensure the best path forward for his career. Discussions are ongoing, and we'll make decisions that align with George's professional development and ambitions. It would be premature to comment on specific clubs at this time. George is focusing on the remaining league games of the season and the Nedbank Cup final," Wilson told the Siya crew.

Soccer Laduma also reached out to AmaZulu and Chiefs for comment on the matter, but there was no response at the time of publication. It remains to be seen whether Matlou could impress head coach Nasreddine Nabi enough at the end of this season, to earn a new contract at Chiefs.
