Nabi's Chiefs Mandate Outlined?

Nabi's Chiefs Mandate Outlined?

With Kaizer Chiefs failing to qualify for the MTN8 last season, finishing 10th on the log, new coach Nasreddine Nabi has been tasked with a list of expectations, the Siya crew can reveal.

According to Siya sources, the Amakhosi management is understood to have set deliverables for the technical team, with indications that the mandate includes an improvement on last season's league position, qualify for a continental competition and reach at least one cup final, regardless of the outcome.

"Of course, they would love to win the league title. That's the wish and dream of every team, but the mandate they have given him is to make sure the team competes for the league title and finishes in a CAF competition place. That means they should end in at least second or third place on the league table. But they have also mandated the coach to reach at least one cup final. They say winning is the aim, but they have to reach the finals to do that. However, they wouldn't really cry that much if they reach the finals and don't win," a source indicated to the Siya crew.

Chiefs will have a shot at the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup, with insiders close to the Amakhosi camp revealing that Nabi will be given a change to rebuild the team.

"They know things won't just start rosy like that. The club has signed new players, and they have given the coach the chance to build the machine that he thinks could combine well and work for him and the club while at the same time producing results. They say winning the league in coach Nabi's first season would be a bonus, but as long as they can qualify for Africa and reach at least one cup final, they could have started very well. That's the mandate to the coach from management," the source revealed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment on the club's mandate to the coach, but there was no response at the time of publishing.

Amakhosi started the Premiership league title chase with a 2-1 away victory over Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, with goals from Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi.
