Zwane Fears For Chiefs' Form With FIFA Break Looming

Zwane Fears For Chiefs' Form With FIFA Break Looming

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has pointed out the challenge they are facing amid the pressure to win a trophy, with Royal AM up next in the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs booked their spot in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 after edging Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars 2-1.

The Glamour Boys have been drawn against one of their hoodoo teams Royal AM in the quarter-finals and Zwane raised a concern that every time they pick up form, there's always a break that interrupts their momentum.

Amakhosi have won three games in a row in all competitions after beating Casric and Zwane managed their expectations in the Nedbank Cup, as after this weekend's fixtures, there is a FIFA international break.

"Sometimes when we think we've got the momentum then there's that break. If you remember I think just after or before Pirates (last year) we had won two more games if I'm not mistaken and it was a break (thereafter)," Zwane told journalists after the Nedbank Cup draw.

"Again, it breaks that momentum you know. It's the same situation we've won three games on the trot, now it's going to be a situation of we win this one over the weekend, then it's a break.

"It kills that momentum and fortunately with us we've played nearly all the games this season without any consistent line-up. We would love to have stable first eleven, where we can say this is our team, then we'll build on it," he said.

'Mangethe', however, remained optimistic that they will go through to the semi-finals despite their challenges.

"Unfortunately some of the players have been the missing link because of injuries and unforeseen circumstances but it's part of the game, we can't complain. We're always looking forward to the next game," he went on.

"This is the game that we have to make sure that we go through to the next round," he added.

Chiefs will travel to Maritzburg United on Saturday in a league clash before the FIFA break.
