Following the ugly scenes in Mbombela after Kaizer Chiefs' most recent match on the weekend, a veteran coach has refused to blame Molefi Ntseki for what is happening at the club.
Chiefs have had a slow start to the 2023/24 campaign after failing to win any of their first three matches in the DStv Premiership, having collected just one point from a draw against Chippa United in their season opener.
After the team's 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, a section of Chiefs supporters threw objects at Ntseki as he was walking towards the tunnel to show their frustrations.
The former Bafana Bafana coach needed to be escorted by security personnel to make it out of the field safely.
Chiefs are 13th on the standings and with just one point collected from a possible nine but veteran coach Walter Rautmann says it is not Ntseki's fault that the team is where they are.
The Good
"With regards to the Kaizer Chiefs situation, I always ask people as to why are they blaming the coach. Who appointed the coach? Why appoint him if he is not good? The person who should be blamed is the one who appointed the coach. Club owners are to blame for some of the things affecting our football. I was a coach who never listened to club owners and that's why I didn't last at many clubs," said Rautmann.
The Bad
"It is crazy that after only three games, Kaizer Chiefs supporters are calling for the coach's removal and I want to believe that part of that is as a result of the wrong decisions from the referees. It is only normal that the supporters will attack the coach and not the referee or linesmen (assistant referees) when the decisions go against their team. But it's not the coach's fault when wrong decisions are made by the officials, I mean it's criminal. That's where our problems start in football here," he said.
The Ugly
"Why make coaching appointments to save money? In my opinion, Chiefs do not want to spend money. First it was (Arthur) Zwane and now it is this new coach (Ntseki) because they don't want to spend money on top class coaches. A club like Chiefs should have a top international coach to lead the team especially after so many years now without winning anything," the coach added.
"Chiefs need a top-class coach"
"I know they (Chiefs) will say he is one of us and he knows the club and all of that but that is nonsense, you need a top-class coach to coach Kaizer Chiefs. In my opinion, the club is suffering because of not wanting to spend. The poor coach who is now in charge of the team is getting attacked by the supporters after three games. He didn't appoint himself. If tomorrow Kaizer (Motaung) phones you and offers you R1 million per month to coach Chiefs, I'm sure you wouldn't say no. You would take a chance. That's why I said what I said about (Morgan) Mammila the last time that he didn't appoint himself. I can't blame Mammila, it isn't his fault and he didn't appoint himself. Who appointed him? The club boss," concluded Rautmann.
Will Ntseki turn Chiefs' fortunes in the next game?
