With Kaizer Chiefs linked with Brazilian coach Alexandre Gallo, Junior Khanye has explained why he is sceptical about that potential appointment.
As first reported by Kickoff.com, Gallo has emerged as a candidate for Chiefs as the club will be expected to finally replace Molefi Ntseki in the hotseat in the coming weeks.
Cavin Johnson is in charge on the interim while the Soweto giants are believed to be in search of a new man to take charge of the bench on a permanent basis.
Khanye says Amakhosi need to break the bank for Pitso Mosimane who recently parted ways with United Arab Emirates outfit Al Wahda.
The Good
"I love Brazil with all my heart and that's my favourite football country of all time. Brazilians stick to their culture when it comes to football and they have got a reputation. They have produced so many top players over the years and I can't even begin to count them. But regarding this coach, I don't know much about him and my worry is that he will need more time to learn. I expected Chiefs to go for Pitso Mosimane now that he is available as a free agent. I thought Chiefs would have learned from Sundowns by now to try and do things the way Sundowns do them by getting some of the best coaches with international experience. That's what Sundowns used to do before Pitso's era and when Pitso became the head coach he was given a cheque book to sign the best players. I'm surprised why Chiefs can't go for Pitso. Cavin Johnson can work with Pitso because the way I see it, Chiefs' problems cannot be solved by him alone and I am sorry for him. I would still love to see Cavin in that technical team and maybe as an assistant to Pitso and Farouk (Khan) can also be roped in. Sundowns would have competition from Chiefs if those appointments were to be made," said Khanye.
The Bad
"My problem with the Brazilian coach that is being linked with Chiefs is that he would still have to learn. Therefore, I've got a problem with the timing of his possible appointment. He didn't have a pre-season with the team and for me that is a problem. Cavin also didn't have a pre-season with the team but you can see that he is trying because he is familiar with South African players and their style of play. It's just unfortunate Chiefs is in the situation that it is in," he said.
The Ugly
"Chiefs' situation requires that whoever is in charge as a coach be given a chequebook to sign players. There are a lot of players there that need to be let go in order for new players who deserve to be there to be signed. That's why I would love to see a coach like Pitso going there because he would be bold enough to make tough decisions. I still believe that Chiefs' situation can change for the better and it just needs some changes here and there to be made by the club. If Pitso wasn't available, I was going to say Chiefs is right by considering this Brazilian coach because I know how capable Brazilians can be in football but my issue is that Pitso is available and why not him when you need a new coach? If you say Pitso is going to be expensive for Chiefs, how much is a Brazilian coach going to cost you? He is an international coach and he won't come cheap," concluded Khanye.
