Kaizer Chiefs have been offered advice by Caster Semenya on how they can look to improve the team going forward.
Semenya, who spoke exclusively to the Siya crew, has suggested that the Soweto giants should focus on developing their own players than signings.
The former world champion has explained she is not against the idea of signing deserving quality players when available in the way that defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and archrivals Orlando Pirates have been doing.
In their next game, Amakhosi are scheduled to play Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
The Good
"Previously, we used to get the best players like what Sundowns does and like what Pirates does. I think if we can go back to that old way of doing things to say we don't just get any player but instead promote from development, that would work. That's what used to happen when the likes of Junior Khanye and all those guys were promoted. For me, if we can go back to that model where we say if we get some best players that's good, but we can also look to promote from the development, and I think that would work. Keeping the coach that you think is for the future, that should be a goal," said Semenya.
The Bad
"If you want to develop the likes of Arthur Zwane for example, you can do it. Take him to certain places where he can gain knowledge and experience than being rushed into the role of head coach. If we believe that Zwane is the future, let's take him somewhere to learn and come back. For example, take him to work closely with someone like Pitso (Mosimane), and for me that's how we can move forward as the team. But I don't question the kind of leadership (we have), style, or anything like that. I would like us to go back to our old model and I believe that we can be a better team again," she said.
The Ugly
"Remember when we talk about management and how the club has restructured and stuff like that, I think that maybe it (inconsistent results) comes to that. You need to adapt to how other people run the show. If you check, previously there were a lot of people involved particularly in the development. What I see now, that has changed, but we don't question that. Also, when you change coaches time and again, it affects the culture of the team. We need to start looking into getting talent more than looking at getting older players from wherever they come from because it looks like we are an option for retirement," concluded Semenya.
How many players should Chiefs look to promote from development each season?
