‘Mmodi Doesn't Convince, Chiefs Must Sign Serero’

‘Mmodi Doesn't Convince, Chiefs Must Sign Serero’

Kaizer Chiefs should sign Thulani Serero and more players, this is according to the club's former player Junior Khanye, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

For the 2023/24 season, Amakhosi added Given Msimango (TS Galaxy), Mduduzi Mdantsane (Cape Town City), Thatayaone Ditlhokwe (SuperSport United), Ranga Chivaviro (Marumo Gallants), Pule Mmodi (Golden Arrows), Edson Castillo (Monagas SC, Venezuela), Tebogo Potsane (Royal AM) and Efmamjjasond Gonzales Palacios (Real Santa Cruz, Bolivia).

With the transfer window closing on September 22, Khanye has suggested that the Soweto giants should add more players to coach Molefi Ntseki's squad in line with the plans to further improve and challenge for trophies.

The Good

"Kaizer Chiefs should still sign more players in my opinion. Thulani Serero is one of the players that the club should prioritise bringing on board. He is the kind of a player that the club should sign if they are serious about challenging for trophies. Against Sundowns in the MTN8 first leg semi-final, Chiefs were exposed and it's just that Sundowns didn't take their chances. That's the game that showed that Chiefs still need to beef up. Of all the signings made by Chiefs, (Edson) Castillo is one player that has been showing signings of being a top player and slowly but surely, he will get there. (Sphelele) Mkhulise is another player that Chiefs should have tried to get from Sundowns. (Thato) Mokeke, Andile Jali and (Mosa) Lebusa are the players that Chiefs should have signed," said Khanye.

The Bad

"I am not convinced about some of the players that Chiefs have signed, including Mduduzi Mdantsane and Pule Mmodi. Yes, Mmodi has scored three goals but overall his performances have not been convincing. Even the national team coach (Hugo Broos) hasn't been convinced by his performances. I am not saying this because the national team coach said something about Chiefs players and not deserving to be in Bafana Bafana but I am talking for myself based on what I have seen when I watched the team's games and how Mmodi performed," he said.

The Ugly

"Like I say, only Castillo is showing that he deserves to play for Chiefs and for me the rest of the players do not deserve to wear the badge. I am just being honest and straightforward. I know that there have been some wins for the team along the way, but the kind of football that is being played hasn't been convincing. I know they won 3-0 in one of the games (against AmaZulu) and I gave them the benefit of doubt but overall the performances haven't been convincing. I compliment them for taking their chances to score those goals but they didn't play well. Even against Stellenbosch where they won 2-0, the opponents dominated them. I have been watching (Tebogo) Potsane, (Given) Msimango, (Thatayaone) Ditlhokwe and the other new signings and I have not been convinced. I know that when Ditlhokwe played for SuperSport United, the team didn't concede a lot of goals. It could be that he was surrounded by good players but at Chiefs he doesn't seem to enjoy a good partnership with Msimango. Chiefs should sign more players," concluded Khanye.
