With Kaizer Chiefs approaching a decade without a trophy, former coach Cavin Johnson has revealed how he planned to offer the club a blueprint he learned at Al Ahly.
Chiefs have been criticized over the years for not signing quality players who fits into the club's culture of winning.
The Glamour Boys winning titles during their most successful eras always had youngsters as the cream of the team.

However, the modern era seems to have influenced the element and business-like approach of relying on the transfer market rather than producing star players from within.
Even though Chiefs seem to have some of the best young talent coming from their ranks, Johnson has revealed that he had a good plan on how to restore the Amakhosi culture from the youth structures, after he was appointed as Head of Academy in September 2023.
"We also tried to bring in what the culture of Kaizer Chiefs is and I only got this being at Al Ahly, what the culture of a Kaizer Chiefs player should be like," Johnson revealed on Smash Sports YouTube Channel.

"This is what I was gonna build when we were at youth, when I was at Al Ahly, we had a 20-year-old goalkeeper who was in the first team but he could mention the 1976 team that won the CAF Champions League. He could mention the (Al Ahly) team that Platinum Stars beat in 2013 (2008).
"What I was gonna try and do (with Chiefs youth) was bring in the Ace Ntsoelengoe, the Doctor Khumalos, the Ace Khuses, the Thabo Mookis, Brian Baloyis and play them (to youngsters at academy) those digital clips and say 'Do you know who this is? Watch this player, this is the history of Kaizer Chiefs and this is the culture'," the former Platinum Stars and SuperSport United coach explained.
The Amakhosi project under head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shown promise, with youngsters such as Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Samkelo Zwane and Mfundo Vilakazi playing prominent roles.
