The local transfer window will close on Friday and Kaizer Chiefs have been advised to sign one or two strikers before that.
Last week, Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki confirmed that the Soweto giants are keen to add Stellenbosch FC midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa to their roster.
"The important thing is that he is a good quality player. We'd love to have him any time, whenever he is available, whenever we have the resources to bring him in. He is a good player," Ntseki said in part, speaking to journalists in Naturena on Thursday.
This morning, Chiefs confirmed parting ways with midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, as changes are taking place at the club.
With Colombian striker Jasond Gonzalez still adjusting to his new surroundings at Amakhosi and getting to understand his teammates, former Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane has advised the club to prioritise signing one or two-attacking minded players as the club is still waiting for Ranga Chivaviro to recover.
The Good
"I hear about Mthethwa, but for me Chiefs need a striker. I would go for a player like (Khanyisa) Mayo instead of a midfielder because it is in the striking department that I think the team is lacking. I know that Mayo hasn't been in great form like he was last season but I would still go for him to add depth up front. He would just need to be consistent. So, yeah, one or two attacking players would do for Chiefs before the transfer window closes, in my opinion. I know that someone will say they (Chiefs) played well against Royal AM but that doesn't always work if there are no results to show for it. The team has to collect points and that's what the supporters need to see," said Mlwane.
The Bad
"For me, Chiefs look like they have a problem of scoring. The team hasn't been scoring a lot of goals and that is worrying. The way I see it, the club is waiting on the players that are on injury like Ranga (Chivaviro) and hoping that his return will be a boost for the team. Chiefs need a prolific striker who will be able to score goals regularly. With the way things are, the club is not in need of someone who will score one goal once in a while as that will not help the team with its objectives," he said.
The Ugly
"I know that a guy like (Jasond) Gonzalez has been brought in but we don't really know when he will be able to click with the rest of the team to start scoring those much needed goals. If the club is serious about competing this season, a prolific striker should be signed. I don't know where the club can get that striker because even here in South Africa, they are difficult to find. At a big club like Chiefs, there is no time for a player to adapt as the supporters are demanding instant results," concluded Mlwane.
