Chiefs made only one change from their win over AmaZulu, as Reeve Frosler was recalled and played out at left-back in place of Sifiso Hlanti who was not in the squad.
Stellies, meanwhile, brought back goalkeeper Sage Stephens and Andre de Jong, as two changes from their defeat against SuperSport United while former Amakhosi winger Kgaogelo Sekgota started on the bench.
Steve Barker's charges were more on the front foot in the opening exchanges, as Iqraam Rayners blasted a shot in a good position in the box over the crossbar before De Jong had a shot that in the box smothered by shot-stopper Brandon Petersen.
The Glamour Boys were playing on counter-attacks but gave away a lot of possession turnovers as with ten minutes left of the first stanza, Devon Titus came close to breaking the deadlock for Stellies with a low shot in the box that was saved at full stretch by Petersen.
Molefi Ntseki's men were struggling with the final ball upfront and were vulnerable without the ball, as just before the half-time break De Jong had a shot on the edge of the box that swerved just wide.
Amakhosi had the perfect start in the second stanza after Pule Mmodi broke the deadlock within seven minutes thanks to a screamer from range that found the top corner, making it three goals in two games.
Stellies were dealt another blow three minutes later as they were reduced to ten men after Titus got a second yellow card for high boot challenge on Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.
The home side doubled their efforts and Rayners came close to equalising just after the hour-mark with a strike in the box that produced a great reflex save from Petersen.
Ntseki made a double tactical change two minutes later as Christian Saile and George Matlou came on for Tebogo Potsane and Mduduzi Mdantsane.
However, the fresh legs of the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala and Saile gave them energy on transitions and the Congolese forward finally put the game to bed for Chiefs in the last minute with a free header at the back post from a cross by Shabalala.
