New Striker Leads Chiefs To Comeback Win

Caleb Bimenyimana bagged a brace on his first start for Kaizer Chiefs, who rallied from behind to defeat SuperSport United 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Chiefs made three changes from their draw against Marumo Gallants, as Edmilson Dove made his debut while Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana got his first start along with the returning Njabulo Blom.

Amakhosi took the attacking initiative in the opening exchanges but they fell behind on 15 minutes after Grant Margeman pounced on a miscued clearance on the edge of the box and fired home a low strike that went in off the bottom post.

The home side were patient on the ball, playing from the back and Bimenyimana had a chance to level matters just before the half-hour mark but dragged a free header wide after a cross by Zitha Kwinika.

With Arthur Zwane's charges continuing to threaten, Bimenyimana forced a save out goalkeeper Ricardo Goss ten minutes before the half-time break after capitalizing on a loose ball in the box.

With Chiefs on top, the Burundian eventually restored parity five minutes before the break with a close-range finish after a cut-back by Ashley Du Preez.

SuperSport settled the better of the sides in the second stanza but Zwane's men created a clear opening ten minutes later and were awarded a penalty after Kegan Johannes brought down Yusuf Maart, which allowed Bimenyimana to step up and give the Glamour Boys the lead with his second goal on the night.

With Gavin Hunt's men rushing forward in numbers, Chiefs had spaces to exploit on counter-attacks but they could not take their chances.

Zwane eventually made a double change on 73 minutes as Keagan Dolly replaced Bimenyimana, who had an apparent calf injury while Cole Alexander came on for Siyethemba Sithebe for fresh legs in midfield.

Matsatsantsa pressurised Amakhosi in the closing stages and looked dangerous on set-pieces but Zwane's men survived, as they held on to move up to ninth on the table.

Here's how they lined up:
