Chiefs’ Zwane Attack, They Must Also Be Part Of The Blame

Chiefs’ Zwane Attack, They Must Also Be Part Of The Blame

A Kaizer Chiefs legend has commented on the recent attack of the club's head coach Arthur Zwane at the weekend by the supporters.

As Amakhosi suffered their 11th defeat of the season on Saturday against SuperSport United, a section of disgruntled supporters threw objects at the mentor as he made his way out of the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Chiefs legend Lucky Stylianou has disapproved of the actions of the supporters, while suggesting that those in sports should be educated on how to behave at the stadiums from an early age.

The Good

Educating The Supporters

"It basically starts from youth level. You can't educate people late in life. Okay, you can because people have intelligence. But what's important is that academies and schools must play a role in educating the youth, coaches, the teachers and the parents for when they come and watch. Some of those people who were at the stadium were probably parents. The first thing you teach children is the philosophy and the spirit of sports. Sporting spirit must prevail. In other words, accept defeat and shake the victors' hands and look forward to the next game. You don't have to hug and kiss him. At school level, children should know that the referees' decision is final, the coaches' decision is final and the result is final and you don't contest that. You contest your playing ability and the rest you leave to other people. And the sports department should assist because that's where the physical education and the teachers come in. There is rivalry between Pirates and Chiefs and why not? That's what you need in sports. That's what the game so fantastic in all sports. But they need to accept that once that final whistle goes and you are disappointed with your team, your technical director and your technical staff will rectify the problems at training," said Stylianou.

The Bad

"Also, you need to look at your own players and the coach obviously because he is paid a hell lot of money to bring home the results. If they fail, there is nothing wrong with the club telling them that they failed. They've got to accept it and work on their game. For example, Arthur Zwane was attacked and the players can't hide behind that and think that they got away with it. They must also be part of the blame," Stylianou said.

The Ugly

Supporters Causing Clubs To Be Fined

"I remember Pirates getting fined and Chiefs also got a fine. My question is about the security. My question is when you have a full house coming whether it's in East London or Durban, why is the security not heavy and loaded in front of the supporters. Why there is always so few security people up there? You think 12 security people will withstand 30 000 or 40 000 people running onto the field?" he added.

We Don't Need Another Tragedy

"I believe that SAFA must start to relook things and they must take some of the blame as well. We don't need another tragedy and if there's not enough security who's going to shoulder that blame. Also, I believe that Pirates security and Chiefs security must go to the away games. They should look out for our supporters at the stadiums. If it has to come to that, why not? There should be enough private security personnel and the police at the stadiums," he concluded.
