Johnson Breaks His Silence

Johnson Breaks His Silence

After a move that sent shockwaves through the local football fraternity Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has broken his silence on his recent appointment.

It has been a whirlwind last few weeks for the 64-year-old Johannesburg native.

He went from being a technical advisor at Motsepe Foundation Championship side NB La Masia to being roped in by Chiefs as their Head of Technical and Development to being sworn in as the club's interim first team coach.

This is not Johnson's first ride at the rodeo however.

He is vastly experienced having coached some of the biggest clubs in Africa, including Al Ahly where he won the CAF Champions League alongside coach Pitso Mosimane.

"Firstly, I would like to thank the Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, for seeing enough in me to have the faith to put me in charge of Kaizer Chiefs. I am sure he thought long and hard about his decision, because he knew what he brought me here to do, which is to develop diamonds in the academy. But when he felt, in his wisdom, that he needed me somewhere else, I accepted his proposal. To be given the opportunity to coach Amakhosi, one of the world's great footballing institutions, is a great honour for me," he told the club's official website following his appointment.

Johnson also made a bold promise to the Chiefs faithful ahead of his first big test at the helm of Amakhosi against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

"[I will] devote every bit of experience and knowledge I have gained throughout my career to get the team back to winning ways and playing football the Kaizer Chiefs way, that delights the fans and draws more people to the matches," he added.
