Nabi Left Frustrated As Chiefs Drop Points

Kaizer Chiefs extended their winless run in the Betway Premiership to five matches after being held to a goalless draw by Chippa United on Saturday evening.

Result: Chippa United 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 19 April 2025

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Defender Zitha Kwinika got his first start of the season in place of the injured Given Msimango, while Tashreeq Morris replaced Glody Lilepo in the attack after last week's win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nasreddine Nabi's charges dominated the possession in the early stages of the first half but they were unable to convert that dominance into clear-cut chances, as the Chilli Boys were able to clear at every attack.

Chippa, meanwhile, were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure for most of the first half while looking to catch their Soweto counter-parts on the break.

Chiefs came into the clash with a number of injury concerns and there was a scare just before the halftime break when Edmilson Dove was stretchered off, however the Mozambique international was able to return to the field.

Coach Nabi cut a frustrated figure on the touchline for most of the half, with his side giving away possession on quit a few occasions although they were lucky not to have been punished by the Chilli Boys attackers.

Nabi responded with a double change at the start of the second half, as Njabulo Blom and Lilepo replaced Solomons and Morris as they looked for a better performance.

The Chilli Boys started to see more of the ball in the second half and they nearly went ahead after the hour-mark as Giovanni Philander forced goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma into a fine save with a powerful effort from distance.

With time running out, Chiefs made two more changes to bolster the attack as last week's match-winner Ashley du Preez and George Matlou came on, with Wandile Duba ad Thabo Cele making way for the final 15 minutes.

Despite the late introductions, the Soweto giants lacked the quality in the final third to carve open the Chippa defence as the encounter ended goalless in Gqeberha.

Here's how they lined up:

Chippa United: Nwabali, Madingwana, Makhele, Chabalala, Sithole, Martin, Kammies, Konqobe, Mqokoze, Kwayiba, Sakala

Subs: Johnson, Ndlovu, Eva Nga, Majogoro, Philander, Molaoa, Tyongwana, Teto, Modise

Kaizer Chiefs: Bvuma, Solomons, Kwinika, Dove, Cross, Maart, Cele, Sirino, Mmodi, Duba, Morris

Subs: Petersen, Mashiane, McCarthy, Blom, Matlou, Mthethwa, Shabalala, Du Preez, Lilepo
