Patrick Maswangani has gone from a relatively unknown player plying his trade abroad to signing for SuperSport United where he has secured himself a blockbuster move to Orlando Pirates in just one season. But who is the Stars of Africa Academy graduate and what makes him so special?

Maswanganyi's rise in terms of his market value is a story to behold. Incredibly, before he came to the DStv Premiership, 'Tito' had a market value of €50, 000 (±R1,030 000) a value he would hold from 2020 to 2022. A regular berth in the Matsatsantsa line-up and a subsequent move to Orlando Pirates has seen the midfielder's stock rise rapidily. His market value has shot up to €500, 000 (±R10,311 000) !
Player's contract status:
The player had just signed a contract with Orlando Pirates who in true club style, did not disclose the length of his contract, though Pirates are known to give three-year contracts, which usually include an option, which is likely to be the case with Maswanganyi.
How Much In SA And Where?:
Maswanganyi was reportedly offered to Kaizer Chiefs before he returned to South Africa last year, but their indecision saw SuperSport United benefit from it. He was also linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, given the rich transfer history between the two clubs.
How Much In Europe And Where?:
The Tembisa-born star spent close to three years in Portugal where he spent time with Oliveirense and Club Academica so he is no stranger to Europe. However, he is untested in European topflight football and if he manages to impress during his time with Pirates, he could secure himself a deal abroad once again.

Maswanganyi's rise to being snapped up by Pirates after just one season with SuperSport is testament to his prowess as a footballer. Should he continue in that same vain, the sky could be the limit for the player who hails from an academy which has produced a number of topflight players both locally and abroad.
