CT City Extend Unbeaten Run After Arrows Draw

Cape Town City extended their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to six matches after playing to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening.

DStv Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 1-1 Cape Town City

Date: 04 October 2022

Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium

The Citizens made three changes from their last league outing, as Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Lyle Lakay got his second debut alongside recalls for Keanu Cupido and only a second start for Kajally Drammeh. Arrows, meanwhile, were without Knox Mutizwa, as his place was taken by Ryan Moon in the line-up.

City had a lively start as Darwin Gonzalez came close to giving them the lead on 20 minutes with a grass-cutter that forced a fine save from goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.

The visitors remained on the ascendancy and Drammeh eventually broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark with a great strike into the bottom corner from a solo run.

Abafana Bes'thende raised their game towards the end of the first stanza as Moon drew fantastic save from shot-stopper Darren Keet after connecting with a cross from Nduduzo Sibiya.

Arrows had a quick start in the second stanza as they came very close to snatching the equaliser within six minutes after Taariq Fielies made a goal-line clearance to deny Velemseni Ndwandwe after Keet could not hold onto a shot in the box.

Mabhuti Khenyeza and Vusimuzi Vilakazi's men piled up the pressure on City but the visitors were not yielding.

Eric Tinkler required fresh legs in attack shortly after the hour-mark as Jordan Bender and Mduduzi Mdantsane both came on for Taahir Goedeman and Drammeh.

However, the Citizens could not wrestle the momentum away from Arrows, as Divine Lunga finally levelled matters six minutes before time with a strike into the top corner after Keet could not hold onto a cross by Sibiya from a corner-kick.

The game was there for the taking for either side in the closing stages and Nqobeko Dlamini came close to snatching the winner for Abafana Bes'thende two minutes before time but was denied by Keet, as the sides settled for a share of the spoils.
